Second World War

The Second World War began with the invasion of Poland in 1939 and ended with the surrender of Japan in 1945. The six years in between saw the world plunged into the bloodiest conflict of its history. Although exact totals are nearly impossible to pinpoint, most historians believe that 40-60 million people, both soldiers and civilians, lost their lives in the conflict.
