Bila Voda, Northern Moravia: Nuns of the Order of St. Vincent de Paul are the sole producers of altar-bread in Czechoslovakia. Once, all wafers were hand-made. Now, they have a semi-automat – a gift from their sisters in Germany. The tiny village has been home to nuns belonging to 12 different orders since 1950 when religious orders were liquidated by the Communist regime.
